After debuts on pocket bikes, Shinya Nakano contended in the 125 cc (1995, 1996) and 250 cc (1997,1998) All-Japan series. In 1998, he made brilliant first appearances on the international scene with a 2nd place for his home Grand Prix, behind Daijiro Kato, and a 4th place in Australia. These excellent results, added to his domestic title, opened to him the doors of Grand Prix. He joined the French Tech 3 team, chosen by Yamaha for its official return in the 250 cc class, in 1999. Very competitive, he took his first win in Japan and ended the season as “rookie of the year”. The year 2000 was palpitating. Shinya Nakano and his teammate, Olivier Jacque, battled out for the title until the last meter of the final round. The French rider was eventually titled. Fair play, Shinya Nakano moved the upper class in the same team the next year and earned the best rookie prize again. The year 2002 was difficult on a 2-stroke machine. In 2003, Yamaha offered Shinya Nakano a ride in Luis d’Antin's satellite team but the relations with the manufacturer got worse. That’s why Shinya Nakano decided to take up the new challenge full of promises proposed by Kawasaki in 2004. Unfortunately, the ZX-RR slowed to be competitive and Shinya Nakano recorded a 3rd place in Japan in 2004 and 2nd place at Assen in 2006 as best results. In 2007, he joined Honda but rarely enters the top-10. However, for the end of 2008, the manufacturer trusted him to develop the new satellite bike. Then, he signed for a world superbike campaign with the new Aprilia RSV4, alongside Max Biaggi. A serious injury forced him to miss the four last rounds and Shinya Nakano prefered retire from racing.
