Since he made his racing debuts, Yuki Takahashi is supported by Honda through a scolarship program for young riders. Thus, he had the opportunity to take part in the Suzuka 8 Hour race for the first time in 2001 and in the 250 Japanese Grand Prix from 2001 to 2004 as a wild-card rider, totalling up two podiums out of four participations. Before his first full Grand Prix season, Yuki Takahashi had a brilliant domestic career : 125 cc class runner-up in 2001 et 250 cc All-Japan champion in 2004. The following season, he joined the Scot team alongside Andrea Dovizioso, he took two wins in 2006. Unfortunately, an injury ruined his 2007 campaign. Slowly recovering a good shape, he claimed three top-3 finishes in 2008 and was, with a 5th position overall, the best Honda rider in the category. His move to the premier-class in 2009 was a failure but Yuki Takahashi found the way back to victory in the new Moto2 championship with the French team Tech3.
