WSBK : After three seasons more or less successful in MotoGP, Troy Bayliss found back the way to victory in Superbike with the Ducati 999. James Toseland (Honda), Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) and Troy Corser (Suzuki), the reigning champion, were never in a position to challenge with him for the title.

WSS : Injured during the season, Sébastien Charpentier saw his advantage melting like snow in the sun. 18 points off before the final round, the rider from the Charentes retained his title only thanks to Kevin Curtain's crash.
