Technique is a thing, equipment is another one. After several attempts, I managed to find the right ones to feel easy when I'm painting and drawing. I present you on this page the tools I use for watercolour, my main activity, but also washing and drawing.

For watercolour
For the line, a 0,5 mm propelling pencil and an eraser are enough.
For the colour, I use Schmincke extra-fine watercolour. The different colours are distributed in two boxes: the biggest is more general while the smallest is specialized in colors generally used on bikes (red, blue or yellow). Paintbrushes of course, tumblers and rags.
Then, the drawing gum is nécessary for watercolour to reserve the white parts.
I use Etival paper by Clairefontaine Etival since 2002 and it gives me whole satisfaction. Its surface is not smooth but it isn't bothering at all for a work of precision. Its grammage (300 g/m ² / 169 lbs) is adapted to all the wet techniques (watercolour and washing). It crinkles little or not in spite of the big quantities of water it has to absorb.

Sometimes, I also need aquarellables pencils. They are colour pencils that can be used with some water to get the same appearance as watercolour. I can also use it at the time of the line. It becomes blurred when painting.

For washing
For the line, the equipment is the same that for watercolour (propelling pencils and eraser).
The Indian ink is mixed in the water to obtain the various nuances of grey on the palette and in the tumblers. The drawing gum is also used to reserve the white parts.
The black zones are either treated with some Indian ink and a paintbrush, or with a "pen -brush". It's a very precise tool that spreads ink in a constant way.
Rotring Isograph pens from 0,25 to 0,7 mm allow to strengthen lines.

For drawing
A mine and an eraser are enough for sketches. For more elaborated drawings, various mines are needed (pencil lead, blood, sepia) more or less hard. Stumps allow to smooth the surfaces.

And (almost) all this is stored in this malette...
